At Rouveen Kaasspecialiteiten we are specialists. But actually, we like to keep things simple. Simply running a business close to home, simply knowing our members, and simply making good cheese. Corporate sustainability been our standard for many years. However, we have noticed that to outsiders our programme ‘Rouveen Simply Sustainable’ is actually quite special.
Rouveen Kaasspecialiteiten has developed the dairy of the future. Our methods of cheesemaking are less polluting and reduce loss of by-products. Our machines are cleaned more often, and work is less physically taxing for our employees. The entire cheesemaking process is robotised. We aim to work sustainably throughout our business, which means: solar panels on the roof, heat recovery units and reusing water, by-products and waste products.
‘Continually working for a sustainable world’
Our dairy farmers are the heart of our cooperative and their cows supply valuable milk: the most important ingredient in cheese production. So we take good care of them. The dairy farmers are united in their goal of furthering the sustainability of dairy farming. They follow a sustainability programme and share their acquired knowledge.
Our employees are always on the lookout for ways to improve sustainability. They regularly carry out projects to make their working environment more sustainable. We also strive for the ‘sustainable employability’ of our people. That means taking into account changing needs and wants at different points in our employees’ lives and careers. Rouveen Kaasspecialiteiten is a model company in the Dutch government campaign for sustainable employability.
Dairy chain
It goes without saying that as a dairy cooperative we are a member of the industry-wide ‘Sustainable Dairy Chain’ initiative. This means we are co-signatories of a covenant with the Dutch government in which our collective sustainability goals have been set.
